With the festive season upon us, Deptford Market Yard is serving up some seasonal treats. Alongside the food offer and unique gifts, you’ll find carol singers, live music, Santa’s grotto/arch and a range of workshops including wreathmaking and gingerbread decorating.

Winterval is the London Arts Board artists presentation of Wintery scenes, contemplating the melting ice caps and considering the commercialisation of Christmas. This exhibition is kindly supported by Lewisham Library and can be viewed in their window display.

And on New Year’s Eve, why not enjoy a family party at one of London’s oldest ballrooms, the Rivoli, from 8pm to 1.30am. The DJ will set the party atmosphere with a mix of Rivoli specials, jive, ballroom, all mixed together with pop, upbeat festive tracks and party classics. Adult tickets, £25, children’s tickets, £12.

The Horniman Museum’s exhibitions include ‘The Lore of the Land’, an immersive exhibition that considers our relationship with the natural world and ‘EVOLUTION of The Artist and The Exhibited Works’ featuring beautifully crafted life-size crochet animal sculptures, inspired and informed by natural history. ‘Yamal: The Stream of Life’ reveals aspects of life in the Yamal region of Northwest Siberia and the Horniman Farmers’ Market continues every Saturday.

Goldsmiths University is putting on a number of short courses for those who would like to immerse themselves in Chinese culture.
From 14 January, ‘Learn to Play Traditional Chinese Music: Guzheng’. Guzheng is a traditional Chinese stringed instrument plucked with plectra attached to four fingers of one or both hands with tape. This flexible 1-1 course fits around your schedule.
