08 Jun Lewisham to showcase Catford and Bakerloo Line opportunities at LREF
The London Borough of Lewisham will be showcasing major opportunities arising from the Catford regeneration and Bakerloo Line Extension, at LREF on 13 and 14 June 2018.
Catford
Delegates at the London Real Estate Forum in Berkeley Square, Mayfair, can hear in depth how Lewisham Council is leading major regeneration which will transform Catford by rerouting the south circular to create a brand new town centre.
There will be significant new retail, business and leisure opportunities for the community, in addition to new housing and high quality public realm.
Across the entire town centre, the Opportunity Area spans 11 hectares and the soon to be selected architects, who will develop a masterplan, will explore opportunities for both Council-owned and third party-owned land to ensure a cohesive vision for the town centre.
Bakerloo Line Extension
Lewisham and Southwark have joined forces to support the Mayor of London’s proposal to upgrade the Bakerloo Line, extending it from Elephant & Castle to Old Kent Road, New Cross, Lewisham and beyond.
The Bakerloo Line extension will massively increase the capacity of London’s transport network and provide faster links between key destinations in the capital. This will help London grow by supporting new homes and jobs and improving connectivity. Up to 36 trains an hour will provide Lewisham and Southwark with better access to London’s job markets.
The Bakerloo line extension will connect nine of London’s Opportunity Areas which is more than any other existing or proposed rail line including Crossrail 2. It will also connect four of London’s Housing Zones, and three of London’s largest estate regeneration schemes.
A further extension ‘beyond Lewisham’ is strongly supported and would offer huge opportunities for homes and jobs in the south of Lewisham. The economic benefits are huge, delivering 100,000 new homes and 112,500 new jobs. Costing £3.6bn, the Bakerloo line extension and upgrade offers enormous value for money and huge benefits for London.
