Studio Egret West have been appointed to produce the Catford Town Centre Masterplan.
Over a period of 10 months, the award-winning architects will build on the extensive community engagement carried out by Team Catford, on the Town Centre’s regeneration.
Lewisham Council appointed architects to work with the community and key stakeholders to develop the best blueprint/framework for the Town Centre’s future as it faces great change.
The south circular is to be re-routed to free up more space for pedestrians and cyclists. Catford Shopping Centre will be redeveloped, providing a new Town Hall, retail space and new homes will be built across the town centre. Pedestrian-friendly areas, open spaces and new community facilities will also be created. The masterplan will guide future growth and development, providing analysis, recommendations, and proposals.
Studio Egret West founding director, David West said: “The opportunity area spans 11 hectares, and with its multitude of infrastructural, ecological and cultural layers, represents a significant challenge and an exceptional opportunity to revive a special place.
“Together with Team Catford, Carl Turner Architects and our consultant team, we will work with the community to produce an outcome that is representative of what Catford deserves and celebrates its unique character.’’
Carl Turner adds: “This will be a place-making story that is written as it goes along, building on the talents and aspirations of local people.”
