The heart of the borough, Lewisham Town Centre has seen significant redevelopment over the last decade.
Lewisham town centre improvements
The Council secured £24 million to revitalise Lewisham town centre (made up of £19 million Government funding, combined with an additional £5 million from the Council). Works are underway at pace to refurbish Lewisham Library, rejuvenate Lewisham Market and improve the high street. Lewisham Shopping Centre
LandSec have submitted the planning application for the mixed-use redevelopment of the Lewisham Shopping Centre. It includes a significant housing growth and new opportunities for leisure, culture, retail and food and beverage.
Lewisham Gateway
The flagship development has completed delivery of over 1,000 homes with forthcoming workspace and cinema uses. The new public space and pedestrian routes better connect the transport links with the town centre.
Other developments
- The Council is building on the success of Cornmill Gardens and Confluence Park to continue to open up and naturalise the rivers running through town centre including projects at Riversdale Park and Connington Road
- Plans for Lewisham Retail Park and Lewisham Tesco continue to be developed, contributing additional housing, significant town centre uses and improved public realm
A key transport hub
The town centre is eight minutes from Zone 1 (London Bridge) by train and connected to Canary Wharf by the Docklands Light Railway. It is also earmarked for a new London Underground station as part of the planned Bakerloo Line Extension.
